Ruth Gorman's self-published magazine, My Golden West, ran from 1965-1975. Gorman was the editor throughout and the publisher from 1965-1970. The title was later changed to Canadian Golden West. In the first issue, Gorman explains the name of the magazine: "this magazine will give you a record of, and a key to enjoying, this golden land of yours — golden in its big sky, its wheat fields, its oil, but above all, golden in its people."

The magazine, touted as “Canadian West’s only magazine” on its opening pages, contained a variety of topics, such as: current events, community activities and people, travel, architecture, history, poetry, homemaker advice, real estate, and classifieds. Of course, it was also an important medium for Gorman to express her political opinions and advocate for Indigenous Rights.
