Drafts, Article Research, and Publications
“At 52,” Ruth Gorman writes, “I have decided Alberta should have a magazine of its own, that will preserve the good way of life with [its] freedoms and generosity.” In a 1966 letter to R.J. Needham, she asserts her belief that she lived in a world of communications, “so one must be part of it, not simply rail against it.” And thus, My Golden West was born, a “52-page slick quarterly” of which Gorman served as publisher and editor for the first ten years of its initial iteration's fifteen-year run.
In addition to several individual issues of My Golden West, this collection features records that offer behind-the-scenes glimpses of the magazine's publication process: ideas for potential articles, detailed research notes, edited drafts, and published pieces.
