Tell Your Story
If you would like to share your experience of police violence with the archive, you can enter it here. You can share it in as much or as little detail as you'd like. All incidents will be briefly screened by our volunteer team prior to publication - you can view the criteria for submissions and our editorial policies on our Terms and Conditions.
We take a broad definition of 'police violence' to include verbal and psychological abuse, so-called 'starlight tours', use of police power for sexual coercion, and other forms of intimidation and coercion in addition to direct physical violence. If the actions of the police inflict physical, mental, or social harm on a member of our community, that is a form of violence. If that sounds like what happened to you, we would be honoured to hear your story. You can read more about how we define police violence on our FAQ page.
Information you provide in your submission can include place, context, sequence of events, weapons used, types of violence/injury experienced, personal or legal consequences of the interaction, if any complaints or charges were laid against officers involved, or other details - anything relevant to capturing what happened. You can include hyperlinks to news coverage or court documents if publicly accessible. There is also space to upload multimedia attachments, which could include things like pictures of injuries or damage - note that the archive team will blur faces to protect anonymity prior to publication. If it is easier for you to upload a voice recording of your description of the incident, we will produce a transcript for the site, but note that the accuracy of transcripts will depend on the quality and audibility of the recording. If you have questions about submitting your story, you can email us first at yegpva@protonmail.com. You must accept the Terms of Service at the bottom of the page for your submission to be accepted.
