The YEG Police Violence Archive is located in ᒥᐢᑿᒌᐚᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ, amiskwacîwâskahikan, on Treaty 6 Territory, a traditional meeting ground, gathering place, and travelling route of the Nêhiyawak (Cree), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Métis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux. We recognize that this land has been stolen through centuries of settler colonial practices, and that settlers today continue to benefit from the privileges accrued through the exploitation of, and genocide against, Indigenous peoples. We understand policing to be an extension of colonial & white supremacist control over this land and its peoples. The Archive is committed to unveiling and dismantling white supremacy in institutions and society, and working towards a world in which Indigenous rights and sovereignty are honoured.
