Zheng was charged with assault and assault with weapon in 2008. In 2011 Zheng was convicted in provincial court for assaulting a handcuffed man in the back of a police vehicle, and was found not guilty for the assault with weapon charge. In a 2011 Disciplinary Hearing, Zheng was found to have committed Discreditable Conduct contrary to the Police Service Regulation due to his criminal assault conviction.
