APIRG is funded through a small portion of student fees (similar to other student services) and has always offered the option for student to opt out and be refunded their fee at the star of each semester. Unless a student has opted out, all full-time and part-time undergraduate students at the university of Alberta are members!
APIRG fees are optional. Every five years, students vote to determine the support (via fees) they wish to provide to help APIRG continue to support students and the community.
Voting 'Yes' for APIRG supports a number of opportunities for students including:

Direct granting for student groups, student-led initiatives, projects, and events

A place for students to develop their ideas to make the world a better place

Free training and workshops for students and student groups

A variety of exciting volunteer positions for students to gain meaningful skills
