• Students for Consent Culture Speaker Series
  Funded 2021-2022 Students for Consent Culture Canada (SFCC) is an organization dedicated to supporting intersectional and grassroots anti-sexual violence advocacy and activism on campuses across Canada by serving as a hub of resources, tools, and institutional memory for students to engage with. SFCC is planning a Speaker Series of free, accessible, educational virtual talks centering issues of gender-based violence prevention and survivor support. Speakers and panelists will include experts, activists, and those with lived experience on topics such as: sexualized violence and the law, creating communities of accountability, community care, supporting survivors through reporting processes, accessible protest organizing, disability justice, and more. This project is entirely student-led, for students. • All Spoons Project
  Funded 2021-2022 Ubuntu-Mobilizing Central Alberta is a registered non profit with an engaging youth council that is made up of high school and university students. We focus on equity, justice, solidarity and providing access for Black people and other communities that have been historically marginalized in central Alberta. Our mission statement is to act as a bridge and connect communities through advocacy and community building. We have completed numerous projects which focused on gender equity, queer representation, diversity, community advocacy and community engagement. In response to food insecurity in central Alberta amongst historically marginalized communities Ubuntu started the All Spoons Project to share skills and resources for participants to learn how to start and maintain a garden. • University of Alberta Permaculture Group Aquaponics Research Facility
  Funded 2019-2020 From Funding Recipient(s): "The University of Alberta Permaculture group would like to extend a sincere thank you to APIRG for their support and funding. Our group focuses on sustainability by working towards growing food in an aquaponics system on campus and providing outreach activities in the community to students. This past year we started contacting schools and organizations to provide educational sessions that tie into the curriculum of elementary and secondary schools and to promote sustainability. We used APIRG funding to purchase materials for these learning events and were able to reach out to a school recently to do a virtual outreach activity. The demos we put together allow students to better understand the concepts being taught and were made possible by APIRG funding. Furthermore, APIRG funding has allowed us to purchase T-shirts with the University of Alberta Permaculture group logo so we are better recognized at schools, events, and sustainability fairs. Also, we were able to purchase equipment to help record our system, which will be used for outreach activities. Giving students the opportunity to see an aquaponics system, even if they cannot see it in person, will be a memorable experience and help promote sustainability. This grant allows us to continue to serve our mission of outreach for years to come. The ability to educate and excite people about the amazing sustainable technologies that can change the way we eat and live can not be understated and the support we received from APIRG has been an instrumental part in the initiation of that mission."

• Prairie Sage Protectors (PSP)
  Funded 2021-2022 Prairie Sage Protectors was established in amiskwaciwaskahikan (Edmonton AB) in 2021 by a group of Black, Indigenous and colonized people of colour, new and experienced organizers, who saw a need for a more unified and radical response across the Prairies to the ongoing/escalating oppression of the state and its agents (police & military, fascists) against Indigenous, Black, immigrant, queer, unhoused/displaced, impoverished, and otherwise marginalized people.
• FentaNIL Project
  Funded 2021-2022 The FentaNIL Project aims to ameliorate the detrimental effects of the overdose crisis in Edmonton and the greater Alberta, including rural communities, by facilitating free naloxone training, distributing take-home naloxone kits, and educating community members on overdose prevention strategies and synthetic opioids.
• RootUp
  Funded 2021-2022 RootUp is a group of students in Edmonton committed to bringing cultures together and creating a community that helps newcomers, such as immigrants and refugees, feel at home in a new environment while sharing their unique cultural identities with Edmonton’s mosaic.
• Food Not Bombs (FNB)
  Funded 2020 FNB is an organisation dedicated to feeding our communities and pushing for a better society where homelessness and poverty are things of the past. They provide hot meals for community members experiencing homelessness and groceries for low-income people as well as participating in the local political sphere.
• El-Tawhid
  Funded 2020 El-Tawhid in partnership with The Muslim Feminist Collective are striving to uphold the values of speaking truth to power, acting against injustice, and living in relationship to the land at the core of Islam. MFC amplifies the voices of those who are doing justice work and offers a condemnation of injustice from an Islamic doctrinal and historical perspective. El-Tawhid strives to offer an inclusive space to pray and practice justice centered Islam with a community invested in dismantling systems of oppression. This space centers and exists for those whose identities exist at the margins of mainstream Islam including BIPoC and LGBTQ+ Muslims. Both virtual and physical spaces serve to hold Muslims, including ourselves, accountable to dismantling racism and patriarchy within ourselves, our communities, and social systems.
• Edmonton Climate Justice Coalition
  Funded 2020 Around Edmonton there are numerous groups involved in climate action related activities. They seek to provide a space for coalition building, skill sharing, and community building between those groups. Members of the working group include Extinction Rebellion Edmonton, Climate Justice Edmonton, and the Alberta Environmental Network.
• Future Librarians for Intellectual Freedom (FLIF)
  Funded 2011-2022 FLIF is a group of Library and Information Studies students who are interested in promoting intellectual freedom and social responsibility. They believe that issues concerning censorship, freedom of expression, and social justice go hand-in- hand, and hope that through information updates and direct action, they will be able to emphasize the importance of intellectual freedom and social responsibility in the personal and professional lives of their readers and their communities.
