Students for a Free Tibet recognizes the historical and legal status of Tibet as an independent country and supports the rights of Tibetans to determine their own future. Students for a Free Tibet uses various strategies in order to educate campuses and communities about the situation in Tibet, and to turn the awareness into positive action. They work with a variety of other Tibet support groups and human rights organizations. Underlying all activities is a commitment to non-violence, recognition for the need for universal responsibility and an interdependent world, and a firm belief that young people can and must take leadership in changing our world.

to Pune, India to spend a month volunteering with two local
non-governmental organizations.

The Students’ International Health Association (SIHA) Local is a student-led organization dedicated to sustainable health promotion and community development.

The Olive is a non-profit editorial collective established by students and former students at the University of Alberta in 2000 to provide a regular and consistent forum for poetry in Edmonton. The mandate of the organization is to feature local writers and poets from across Canada. The Olive fosters an environment where local writers and poetry enthusiasts can interact with artists from the larger literary community.

The Prairie Youth Radical Organizing School (PYROS) is a coalition of social justice, labour, and faith-based organizations that provides young people on the prairies with the tools to challenge injustice in their schools and communities through collective action. The Queer Scout program hosts an annual summer camp for LGBTQ2S+ youth between the ages of 14-24 in late July, and launched it’s cohort leadership program in the Fall of 2018.

Track-tion is a sports event for persons with mental disabilities. Competitors are matched with individuals called “counselors” (somewhat similar to the camp counselor concept) who will spend the day with them providing support and friendship. Some of the sporting activities are open to the counselors as well, and everyone participates in the leisure and social activities together.

TRUE's goal is for Edmonton citizens, especially those dependent on public transportation, to get involved by sharing their ideas and concerns so that we can all develop a serviceable transit system for everyone. TRUE is currently formed of ETS riders who are researching and developing strategies to improve the quality of public transit in Edmonton, Alberta. TRUE wishes to champion an effective movement and wants to provide a unified voice towards efficient affordable public transit.

UCAWAR intends to create public space to debate and
share information about democratic, humanitarian and
egalitarian alternatives to war, militarization, and racism
through actions like teach-ins, read-ins, theatrical agitation,
and creating and reproducing antiwar publications for
schools.

The Council of Canadians University of Alberta Chapter is about taking a stand on important political, social, economic, environmental and yes even cultural issues. The mandate of the group is to promote Canadian Sovereignty in reaction to pressures to integrate with the United States and a move towards globalization; to reclaim a local and global commons and to create a civil society movement including participatory democracy.

The U of A Women’s Centre exists to provide a supportive environment for education, networking and organizing around women-specific issues within the campus community and beyond. It is a space dedicated to community building and activism, supporting women and women-positive groups to connect, dialogue, organize and create around issues and ideas. The Centre offer funding and administrative resources to support groups in carrying out their projects.

Voices for Choices is a non-hierarchical, collective group of individuals who are working to establish and promote a pro-choice, sex and queer-positive, as well as woman-friendly presence on and around the University of Alberta campus and the City of Edmonton.

Voice of Albertans with Disabilities (VAD) is dedicated to supporting individuals, organizations, government representatives, schools, business personnel and employers to reduce the barriers and find solutions that prevent full participation.

Yard Share YEG’s program aims to reduce barriers, empower communities, and increase food security through sharing yard space as a unique alternative to community gardens. Yard hosts and gardeners are matched through an online platform and are provided supplies for continuous support. Gardeners grow food in the host’s yard while sharing a small portion of their harvest with the host as an exchange. This collaboration provides the opportunity for those who are food insecure to share space in which to grow food.

YEGTheComeUp (TCU) is a youth program under the Africa Centre. The collective works towards empowering and sharing various voices and experiences of young peoples of African and Caribbean descent. By coming together to discuss youth-relevant topics through the inclusion of diverse cultures and experiences, YEGTheComeUp provides a means for building and supporting identity, collective and self-awareness and community

YAP’s objectives are to recruit and train new volunteers and conduct anti-racism education workshops. YAP volunteers are committed to mobilizing other youth.
